Why compost?

It is estimated that at least 30% of kerb side rubbish collection is organic waste such as kitchen food scraps and garden waste. When placed in landfill, this organic matter breaks down anaerobically (without oxygen), a process which produces large amounts of methane gas, a well know major contributor to climate change and environmental damage. By removing this organic waste from landfill and diverting it to compost, a process in which this material is safely converted to a fertiliser for growing plants, we are able to significantly protect our environment by reducing carbon emissions.
